Framing Standards

According to the Fine Art Trade Guild there are 5 levels of framing;

  • Minimum – the very cheapest materials.
  • Budget – Looks better but no real protection for the artwork.
  • Commended – provides some protection and more thought over design.
  • Conservation – protection for the artwork for up to 20 years.
  • Museum – it doesn’t really get any more protection than this.

More information at the Fine Art Trade Guild website here http://www.fineart.co.uk/Public/Standards/Framing/Framing_Info_Advice.aspx

Your Picture Framer will normally frame all artwork to commended level as the bare minimum and when we think the art would benefit from conservation or museum we will advise accordingly.
